Warminster School Music Department thrives on the participation of pupils and staff in its many ensembles, from our larger groups such as Warminster Singers and Concert Band, to our more specialist groups such as Chamber Ensemble.
Warminster Singers
Warminster Singers provide the musical elements of all of our school church services as well as taking a leading role in all major school performances including Cabaret. The choir is non-selective and anyone in Year 9 or above is welcome to enter; all we ask is that pupils commit to rehearsals and remain enthusisatic about our performances!
In 2005 the choir toured Colorado and Wyoming in USA and in 2008 toured to Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco. In July 2011 the group had a very successful tour to Italy.
Current repertoire includes Lacrimosa from Mozart's Requiem, Rutter's God be in my head and A Gaelic Blessing, as well as several spirituals, pop songs and musical theatre numbers that everyone thoroughly enjoys!
Junior Singers
As the training choir for Warminster Singers, Junior Singers meet every Monday for a 30 minuite rehearsal. The group is directed by current L6 and U6 music pupils and the music has a contemporary feel to it. The group performs at all major school concerts. Pupils from Year 7 and 8 can join - with automatic progression to Warminster Singers at Year 9.
Big Band
The school big band was formed during the Colorado and Wyoming tour in 2005 and has gone from strength to strength. Performing regularly in school, the group has also participated in many other local events as well as being broadcast on our local radio station. The Big Band is an auditioned ensemble, directed by Mrs Priestley, our woodwind teacher. The group usually has around 16 pupils and 3 staff playing music of a challenging standard.
Concert Band
We encourage all pupils who learn instruments to participate in our school 1st Band. With a typical membership of around 45 pupils and 8 staff, we perform music in a wide range of styles. Recent performances have included Star Wars, Superman, Aventura, Shrek and The Dam Busters.
Brass Ensemble
Rehearsing every Wednesday, brass ensemble (directed by Mr Corrigan) is growing in strength and numbers. So far they have performed in a number of concerts and played carols at several public charity events.
String Ensemble
A very new addition to our portfolio, the String Ensemble is growing in size and features many of the school's string players playing classic arrangements for string orchestra.
Chamber Ensemble
Directed by Mr Martineau and Mrs Priestley, these newly-formed, selective groups are made up of our more advanced players, and more challenging repertoire is introduced to stretch and challenge everyone who attends!
Rock Bands
At any one time, we usualy have around 4 rock bands rehearsing in school for various concerts. Junior Battle of the Bands (Year 7 - 9) and Senior Battle of the Band (10 - U6) are great highlights of the year. The bands are student led and all rehearsals are generally run by them without too much staff intervention!
