Department Facilities
The Learning Support Department works in partnership with the mainstream academic departments to address the specific learning difficulties of approximately 10% of the senior school roll.

The school follows the guidelines set out in the Code of Practice for SEN (DfES, 2001) and identification, assessment and provision procedures are in place to support this process.

Department Staff

There are six staff members within the Department, four teachers and two part time learning support assistants. Teaching staff hold a range of specialist qualifications ranging from a Masters Degree in SEN to Diplomas in sp.l.d. and skills in English and Maths.

There is a commitment to share this expertise with mainstream teaching staff so pupil needs are addressed effectively.
Teachers have an additional mainstream curriculum responsibility in order to ensure ongoing close links between academic and learning support departments. However the Head of Department is based full time within Learning Support.

If you have any further questions about Learning Support then please contact Mary Caron Courtney - head of Learning Support via email on:

Exam Board and Specification

The Department takes responsibility for arranging assessments with the Educational Psychologist if special concessions are considered appropriate. Regular staff training takes place in order to ensure current legislative information is followed through and pupils receive appropriate advice and support.
