Introduction

Welcome to the International Baccalaureate at

Warminster School

CRW_6097.jpg
In choosing the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at Warminster School, sixth form students become part of a world-wide community which offers academic excellence and holistic personal development. The IB Diploma is taught in well over 100 countries and is universally recognised as offering first class preparation for further education.

The International Baccalaureate is offered as an alternative to A levels in our thriving sixth form. It provides a range of academic choices, a challenging and stimulating curriculum as well as a comprehensive programme of personal development. The Diploma programme complements the holistic approach to education for which Warminster is so well known and valued.
We look forward to welcoming you at Warminster School.

The Diploma Programme

Central to the curriculum are the ‘Theory of Knowledge, the ‘Extended Essay’ and ‘Creativity, Action and Service’.

‘Theory of Knowledge’ presents students with opportunities to develop analytical skills, delving into the kaleidoscope of learning and understanding.

The ‘Extended Essay’ allows each student to investigate a subject of their choice and produce independent research that is held in high regard by universities and colleges.

‘Creativity, Action and Service’ offer students vital aspects of holistic personal development through a wide range of opportunities, which enhance the academic curriculum. Our CAS coordinator is Ms Nia Davies.

CAS students become involved in a wide range of activities at Warminster School.

Warminster School staged 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat' after only 24 hours rehearsal raising funds for the California Tour. IB music candidate Mike Patterson took the lead role and all other Music IB students took promary roles in the production.

A whole musical with scenery, costumes, orchestra and special effects in only 24 hours?

The Curriculum Groups

Together with the three core areas – ‘Theory of Knowledge’, ‘Creativity, Action and Service’ and the ‘Extended Essay’ the Diploma offers six academic subjects. The subjects may be selected from a range of disciplines and every effort is made to carefully match each student with a comprehensive course of study. Choices are made from the categories below (three at higher level and three at standard level):

Group 1: Language A1

Group 2: Language A2

Group 3: Individuals and Society

Group 4: Experimental Sciences

Group 5: Mathematics and Computer Science

Group 6: The Arts

Regularly updated information is available regarding the current options, within each group, at Warminster School. For an information pack or to arrange a visit, please contact Mrs Gayle Webb, Admissions Registrar by e-mail, gwebb@warminsterschool.org.uk   or telephone +44 1985 210160.
