AIMS

The underlying, philosophy the Information Technology policy is based upon is the belief that every pupil, regardless of sex or ability, is entitled to a curriculum which includes a full range of Information Technology activities leading to Information Technology capability.

Three main considerations arise form this underlying principle of entitlement: -

1. Opportunities must be found for pupils across the whole ability range to use Information Technology in a meaningful way. Pupils should see male and female staff using IT with confidence. It is unlikely that pupils with physical disabilities would have problems at school using Information Technology, but should this occur solutions would have to be found to overcome this problem.

2. To meet the needs and aspirations of all pupils the IT department must concern itself with the delivery of specialist courses while at the same time implementing and supporting a cross curricular approach. IT should not be seen as an end in itself but it should be a tool used appropriately. Pupils will become discerning, independent users of IT as they see it embedded in their other activities. Maintaining the balance between specialist courses and cross-curricular work is the concern of the IT department.

3. Pupils' experience of IT throughout their time at Warminster should not be haphazard but should be planned to ensure progression. Every pupil should have the opportunity to gain a qualification as evidence of his or her attainments.

The IT Department has three primary areas of activity:

1) It is a teaching department, with responsibility for delivering coherent schemes of work to pupils,

2) It is a support service, providing IT resources (human, hardware and software) to the pupils and staff of the School community to enhance the educational role of the School,

3) It works with other teaching staff in the School to enhance their use of IT in their teaching.
