All of the computers available to students at Warminster are IBM PC compatible machines.   The whole school network connects all school building using the fibre-optic technology, allowing high speed access to student files and on-line resources at all locations in the school.

There are three main IT suites at Warminster, one equipped with 27 computers, the other two having 17 machines each.   These suites are used by Year 7 to 11.   A further 12 machines are provided in the Sixth Form Centre resources room for Sixth Form teaching and for use during Sixth Form private study periods.

In addition to the IT rooms, the Resource Centre has a suite of 18 computers in a dedicated area on the upper floor of the Library.

The computer resources are complimented by an extensive range of colour and monochrome printers, scanners etc.

Every teaching department at Warminster has a number of individual machines available within the departments (the Science Department has a PC and printer in every laboratory for example).

Each boarding house at Warminster has an IT room which is available to boarders for both academic and non-academic purposes.

To maximise the student access to computing resources the IT rooms are open to pupils before school starts in the mornings, during break times, lunch times and after lessons in the evenings.

The standard applications used through out the school are from the Microsoft Office 2000 suite:

Word is used for word processing.

Excel for spreadsheet work.

Access for database management.

Desktop publishing work is undertaken using Publisher.

Powerpoint is used for the production of presentations.

In addition to the above, Photoshop is used for graphics work and CAD software, programming languages, HTML authoring packages etc are available on the school network along with specialist software applications such as the AutoGraph graph plotting software used in Mathematics and the PIC programming suite used for DT and Electronics.

Networked CDs are used extensively in a variety of subjects as both a learning and reference resource.

School e-mail accounts are available for students, although if pupils have existing e-mail accounts they can access these through the school if they prefer.   The school runs its own web-base e-mail server allowing students to access school e-mail accounts from any machine with internet web browsing facilities.
