The GCSE course is split into 4 units.   Units 1 and 3 are written examinations and each worth 20% of the course.   Units 2 and 5 are controlled assessments and each worth 30% of the course.

Unit 2: Practical applications in ICT

Candidates create an ICT solution using ICT applications.

-          Investigating a need

-          Practical use of software tools to produce a working solution

-          Practical use of a file and data structure to produce a working solution

-          Present their solution

-          Evaluation


 

Unit 3: ICT in Context

-          Networks

-          Information Knowledge Based Systems and Expert Systems

-          Project Planning

-          Exchanging information

  • Communications software

-          Keeping data safe and secure

-          Current and emerging technologies


 

Unit 4: Coding a Solution

Candidates identify a potential coded solution to a problem and solve using basic programming techniques.
