History is about power, people and ideas. If you enjoy discovering and discussing what people have done, why they have done it and how their actions have affected our world.
Welcome to Warminster School's History Department
Our aims are clear, simple and true
-
To promote and encourage the enjoyment of the study of History
-
To help students develop an appreciation of the relationship between the past and the present and to understand current events
-
To enable students to find their place in the world through a study of concepts such as chronology and historical development
-
To foster an appreciation and tolerance of the values, opinions and cultures of other people of other times and places as well as the cultural heritage of the country in which they are being educated
-
To encourage the study in depth of historical problems in order to illustrate the concerns common to diverse peoples and societies over a number of centuries
-
To enable students to form and defend their own ideas while respecting those of others
-
To facilitate the development of analytical methods of thinking and writing through the use of different types of historical materials, and to enable students to use these skills to detect bias, propaganda and inconsistency, and to assess the value of an argument, historical or otherwise
-
To help develop the citizens of the future who will hopefully avoid the mistakes of the past.
