Rugby at Warminster has grown a huge amount since it was introduced into the school 10 years ago. The pupils all play when they enter the school in Yr 7, both during games lessons and in inter school matches for one of the many teams that are put out. We strive to give all of the pupils the opportunity to challenge themselves, reaching their potential whilst playing for the school and forging strong bonds with team members. Many pupils have reached county standard whilst playing for the school, as well as several of the local clubs in the area. Along with a large number of fixtures throughout the Autumn term against competitive opposition, there are also opportunities for tournaments, tours and sevens. As a school we are very lucky to have excellent parental support, both on the sideline and at social events.

With the school’s newly gained HMC status, Warminster School is gearing itself up for it’s first ever entry into the HMC Foursomes Golf Tournament. The school has forged strong links with West Wilts Golf Club and this is where Warminster School will play it’s home ties.

Other than entry into the HMC Foursomes competition, Warminster will play a series of friendly matches throughout the school year.

Girls Hockey has a strong tradition here at Warminster. Pupils play from year 7 through to Yr 13 with teams in all age groups. Hockey is played through out the autumn term both in games lessons and year group training sessions. Inter school and inter house matches run throughout the term both mid week and every Saturday. The girls are given the opportunity to play for both all girls and mixed teams at all age groups. A large number of pupils have reached county standard and West of England level. Many girls are given the opportunity to further consolidate their hockey skills through selection at local hockey clubs. The Head of Girls Hockey works alongside a number of specialist hockey coaches ensuring all girls are given maximum exposure for hockey participation.

Pre season training precedes the hockey season in September and focuses on providing progressive hockey skills practices and specific Hockey fitness training sessions. Warminster hosts an annual U13 tournament for approx 12 teams during the autumn term and there are plans for more tournaments in the near future. Parents and staff regularly come to support the Warminster hockey teams and this is further supported by the OV’s hockey day and Staff v pupils match at the end of the season.

We play in a highly competitive fixture list against some of the best hockey Schools in the West of England. The Head of Hockey works with enthusiastic and well qualified coaching staff who take games and matches both during the week and weekends. All coaching and matches are played on Astro-turf.

Warminster regularly competes in the Wiltshire Schools Hockey tournament and have a number of players in all the Wiltshire County Hockey squads. The school has close links to West Wilts Hockey Club.

Girls Netball

Head of Girls Netball: Mrs Emily Spivey (Acting Head of Girls' Games)

Netball has gone from strength to strength since the arrival of a number of specialist netball teachers. Netball has been traditionally played during the spring term, although it has recently been introduced earlier in the school year to allow the girls more time to work on specific skills before their netball season commences. This is further complimented by pre season training run by Team Bath Netball coaches early in the spring term. All girls now benefit from new modern training and match kit and high expectations are placed on all girls in lessons, training and matches. Warminster have shown good progress over recent years and are now competing against the likes of King Edwards, Bath and Kingswood. Warminster is very fortunate to be so close to Bath which enables the PE department to run trips to Bath University to watch Team Bath play in the televised Super League. This has further motivated and inspired many pupils to take up club level netball both in Wiltshire and Bath and North Somerset.
