several weeks both GCSE and A Level classes have been perfecting their devised and scripted pieces ready for examination and once again we have been fortunate enough to be granted an evening performance slot at the above theatre.
The standard as always is particularly high and we feel it is only right that the pupils get a chance to show off their excellent work to the public and invited audience. It promises to be a fantastic and extremely enjoyable night consisting of 6 short pieces displaying cutting edge theatre, comedy and engrossing drama.
Sixth Form performance pieces
:
Far, far away
London 1940. A group of friends huddle together in the gloom of their school’s air raid shelter as the first bombs begin to fall in what was to become known as the Blitz. Trapped and frightened, the four girls tell their own versions of Fairytales in order to escape the horrors outside.
Amber Kennedy, Ellie Taylor-Roberts, Sofia Tindall-Guignard and Nicole White have devised an extra-ordinarily inventive piece merging the styles of physical theatre, storytelling and creative adaptation. Hilarious and at times very poignant, this electric work is the culmination of all they have learned during the course.
Antigone by Bertolt Brecht
The classic Greek tale adapted by Brecht presents the story of Antigone, who after watching her brothers sent off to fight and die in an unholy war, is shocked to find that her country refuses to bury one of them. She then unlawfully enters the battlefield to set this injustice right and is then tried by the warlord Kreon and threathened with execution.
Ella Cumber and Andrew Langford use Brechtian techniques to breathe fresh life into the legend ably assisted by Mark Bennett with Patrick James and Robert Allen providing live music.
Year 11 performance pieces:
Teechers by John Godber
Ben Ecclestone, Rebecca Panton and Allissa White-Williams play Salty, Hobby and Gail and 20 other characters as they multi-role in this outrageous, lightning quick farce about school, relationships and growing up.
Sweeney Todd
Jamie Coupe, Elizabeth Tressider, Sophie Trusler and Hugh Webb have devised and adapted this popular story into a new interpretation using the interesting device of a play within a play.
Dr Jeykl and Mr Hyde
Imo Cook, Kirk Gross, Chris Giles and Evie McGuckian –Jones take us back to the dark streets and alleyways of London in the 1800’s. Something sinister lurks in the darkness…
The Witches
Natasha Eeles, Millie Cope, Sam Kinzet-Wilcox and Alexa Coxon present an adaptation of the well-loved children’s book by Roald Dahl. Using storytelling techniques and elements of Physical Theatre this performance will thrill and terrify!
Tickets are available from the Salisbury Playhouse Box Office on 01722 320 333 priced at £7. Please quote “
Warminster School Summer Showcase” when booking.
As we are only in the venue for one night only and considering the standard and mix of styles of the pieces, we are expecting a high demand for tickets. Last year the event sold out very quickly indeed so please therefore book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
