IB Economics
Economics is a very popular choice amongst the IB students. The course goes beyond traditional micro and macroeconomics to also look at International and Development Economics. The volume of work required is high and the pace of study is fast, so students must be willing continually to revise and read around the subject independently.
A key component of the course is the ability to apply economic theory learned in class to real-world situations, which we do through a series of newspaper commentaries and presentations. Many students choose to make Economics the subject of their Extended Essay because of their enjoyment of the subject and the interrelationships that it has with so many other subjects.
A-Level Business Studies
Business Studies is a very popular subject at A-level, with approximately half of all Lower 6th students opting into it. The course is designed to give students a basic knowledge of business structures, concepts, techniques and decisions so that they can more intelligently understand its role in the economy. Students are also required to develop the analytical and evaluation skills which are useful in most higher education and life in general.
It must be stressed that studying Business either at school or at university does not lead directly to a job 'in business'; businesses need people with practical skills, but also people who are resourceful, articulate, adaptable and analytical. Providing these skills are developed, which we do in this course, almost any programme of study at school or further education can lead to career in the business environment eventually. The A-Level Business Studies course should be taken because the subject is interesting, rather than being seen entirely as a means to an end.

GCSE Business Studies
GCSE Business Studies covers much of the same ground as the first year of A-Level Business Studies, although the emphasis is slightly more on pure knowledge than on analytical skills. In the second year, students undertake a coursework assignment which requires them to use their knowledge in addressing a particular business problem or challenge.
Students taking GCSE Business Studies are strongly advised against taking it again at A-Level.
